How to say it

Curled tongue, released with a strong puff of air.

In Taiwan

Many speakers in Taiwan curl ㄔ only lightly, close to ㄘ. Written Zhuyin always keeps the difference.

Do not mix up

ㄔ curls the tongue back. ㄘ keeps it flat behind the teeth. See ㄘ (c) →

Where it comes from

ㄔ comes from the character 彳. Zhuyin symbols were made from parts of old characters in the 1910s.
